TPMS - Warning Light on

Issue

Warning light from the tyre pressure control system is on.

Technical Background

Various. Possibly no entry in the tyre pressure memory.

Solution

Test the various posibilities, The following information helps to isolate and fix the issue

1 Ensure the correct procedure for setting up via the MMI is adhered to
2 Are the batteries in the sender units still viable
3 Is the control unit correctly coded, Wrong coding may mean that the system is checking the wrong frequency
4

Does the system recognise all in the sensors fitted in the vehicle?

Read measured value block 16 which shows in turn all receivable sensors. 4 different numbers must appear (5 in case of full-size spare tyre).

– The system keeps running, i.e. the display is not stopped after the receipt of 4 or 5 sensors. The sequence may also not be the same. Make a note of the serial numbers and check whether there are really 4 or 5 different ones.

– Are too many sensors shown? In this case another vehicle or another tyre set with sending tyre pressure sensors are within the reception range of the vehicle. Make sure only information of the wheels fitted on the vehicle is received.

5 Is the necessary number received by the sensors?
YES: see below 'Save pressures, test drive and measured value block 19'

NO: Locate which wheel doesn’t send or cannot be received. The 2nd display in the MVB 16 (after the long serial number) is 'Status 01h'. This status shows the pressure condition in the tyres. 01h means constant pressure.

Quickly release on a tyre at least 0.5 bar pressure. Then observe the MVB 16. With a serial number the status must now change to '02h' (pressure loss recognition). Make a note of the displayed serial number and the respective wheel position.

Perform this process on all tyres. The wheel which remains unchanged in MVB 16 after releasing the air is not received. Push the vehicle by half a tyre turn forward and repeat this process. - If nothing changes in the MVB 16, the respective wheel electronics is incorrect.

Save pressures, test drive and wait for the pressure display in the MMI.
6

– If after completing the above points it is certain that all fitted sensors can be received, a test drive must be carried to calibrate the system. After performing 'Save pressures' in the MMI four lines must be displayed. The system is ready for calibration.

- After the test drive check the pressure display. The pressure values must be shown here.

The test drive must last at least 20 minutes.

- If the problem recurs after a 30 minute test drive, check the following

If a warning light is shown check the following points

• Have you checked/corrected the tyre pressure without subsequently pressing 'Save pressures'?

• Do you use a wireless headphone or similar equipment which might interfere with the tyre pressure warning system?

• Has the vehicle been changed to winter or summer tyres without pressing 'Save pressures' and performing a test drive?
