Adding a non OEM Digital TV is quite easy, whether you use the old analogue inputs or an aftermarket inputs device you still face some issues.

 

Requirements

Should be 12V

Infrared extender (to control the unit)

Antenna/s

 

You can get a cheap digital TV box for the car with SD or USB movie player and some games for £50GBP on ebay. and it will work, I installed one myself.

 

 

Downsides

• you need to run cables from the luggage compartment to the cabin for Antenna's and the IR extender.
• You cant use the vehicles own antenna system, which leaves only the ones that stick to the rear screen
• Reception is OK when stationary dependant on area
• Reception while moving is much worse, can be better by using 2 powered antenna's
• The system will not auto follow the channels, so when moving you will need to retune everytime you want to watch it.

Mid-Top range devices

You pay more you get more, you are much more likely to get a device which will have diversity antennas and be able to track channels while moving.

 

Downsides

• you are still left with the unsightly antenna;s on the back screen
• The reception while better than cheaper units will still be affected by the antenna's on the back screen.
• with the top of range devices you are getting close to secondhand OEM money.

Upsides

• Some of these devices allow recording of programmes and other nice functions
